July
10th, 2003
Bigtime live at "Ritmo y Compas", Madrid, Spain
This
was a very good show... Maybe 60 people in the audience. We had
a good sound check, in a place we already knew, with a good willing
soundman. We played most of our new CD with some pieces from Troika
and the first one.
The
picture is taken from the video of Fuga & Misterio, not in this
show, but at the same place on February 4th.
Sunday
August 18th, 2002
Bigtime live in "Humano", Palermo, Buenos Aires
Start time: 10:45 pm
Weather: incredible pouring rain!!
Attendance: approx. 100 people
Emotive,
powerful and with a farewell taste. Despite we put clear in the
mailing send that it wasn't the "goodbye show", everybody
who attended to this show knew that they wouldn't see another BigTime
show for a long time. So the local was crowded (over 70 reservations
one day before the show) and people challenged hard autumm weather
and placed where possible: tables, chairs, stand, upstairs in the
balcony, on stairs and in the floor.
Audience gave heat and the trio gave them a over 85 minutes performance,
where some lack of adjustment after four months with no rehearsal
were minimized for the energy created in the air...
BigTime played part of the repertoire of the two records, all the
"Ballroom"stuff, two or three Guitar Craft standards and
close encores with circulated Bach's Double Presto.
It was a sweet and warm "see you soon" with our Buenos
Aires people...

Pasaje

Saturday,

Templum, Ayacucho 318
Buenos
Aires, Argentina
Thursday,
April
19
2001, 10 PM at
Sonoridad Amarilla, Fitz Roy 1973.
Buenos
Aires, Argentina.
It
went like an open rehearsal, with ten people in the audience. By
chance, Ignacio R., former singer with Rael, stage companion between
1987 y 1993,
appeared
surprisingly. Also Uki G. was there (I never thought he'd be interested
in our repertoire). Italo D., radio journalist helped to transform
the end of the show into a short Q&A session. I'd like to thank
Jorge Salinas who brought us to that place and helped with the practicalities
of the evening.
Saturday,
March 31st., 2001, 10 PM at
Brew House Club, Estados Unidos 745.
Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A
good autummn evening, with some eighty people in the audience... A
show with a couple of highlights; we
played some new material for the "always present" audience,
and this also refreshes our head...
The
set list:
El
Ingrediente Secreto del Pastel de Mary
Viajeros
Palabrasanta
Cartas desde Grecia
Quejas de Bandoneon
Fuga en Cm
Aybe Sea
Yamanashi Blues
Flying Home
Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
Boda en Londres
And 30 minutes later:
Ballroom
Here, there & everywhere
Fuga & Misterio
MAVEMS
Children's Song #3
Three Balls in the air
Desarma & Sangra
A Conn. Yankee ITCOKA
El Payaso (six performers on stage)
Miller's Medley
New Country
With three encores:
Taquito Militar
Fiesta (Santana Mix version)
Preludio en C
This set really worked. Was it because we played quite well?
There are moments in which I feel we play with no safety net down
there: Fuga en Cm, Beatles, Fuga & Misterio, Taquito, Desarma
& Sangra... It's like being exposed to the Power of Melody,
checking our capacity of being present in every second, taking for
granted that a part of the audience is mostly present.
I'm not talking about popular melodies only. When we play Viajeros
or MAVEMS, I feel that "any fool can play something difficult",
and that "playing fast is easier than playing slow"...
Guille was there with MAVEMS, which we didn't played for years.
It's a way of getting closer to him...
REVIEWS
OF PREVIOUS SHOWS:
Friday, January 19th, 2001, 0.30 PM at
CLASICA Y MODERNA, Callao 892.
Friday:
meeting at
21.30, running through the set list I prepared, and at 12.30 we
were at the door of C&M. We waited till the end of Horacio Molina's
show; the place was packed with people in their sixties.
While setting up our gear, the place became almost empty. Only five
tables with some 20 people to hear to us. Not bad! A friend of Claudio
arrived with the help of our website: he was navigating elsewhere
and found that Claudio had a guitar trio two hours before the show...
GOOD!
After playing we received very good comments from the owners of
the place, leaving the door opened for future gigs after the holiday
season.
Monday, December
18th.,
2000 2 PM at
Isla Santa Mónica, Tigre
Above, our set up after a short trip in a ship to the Isla Santa
Mónica. We didn't bring a photographer to make a shot during
the show... We played for 25 people while they were having lunch;
managed to take part of their attention and made also an encore...

Usually,
our gigs doesn't finish with champagne, in a boat like that. That's
why, when work has little additional features we've got to document
it!
Friday,
november 17th., 2000, 10 PM at
BrewHouse Club, Estados Unidos 745, Buenos Aires.
A
warm evening, very noisy because of the rush hour, when we have
to do the gear transportation by ourselves. But it was OK and in
30 minutes our sound was set.
Around
85 people went to the show last Friday. Some of them arrived at
9 PM and stayed till 12.45. A real challenge considering the hardness
of the wooden chairs...
The show was good with difficult moments during Fuga & Misterio
and Taquito Militar. Playing tango is very demanding. We had a couple
of premieres like 'Aybe Sea' from Frank Zappa and 'Ballroom' from
Bill Frisell. They worked really well. On the other hand I have
the feeling that some songs should take a break.
Before
starting to play we had a nice surprise: George Abhufele and Ana
María, two crafties from Chile came to see us. The last time
we met was in March '98! They have a well-known music school in
Santiago called Pro Jazz and came to BA to check how it works here.
More new people is getting to know BigTime thanks to the Internet.
They come to the shows buy CD's, and recommend us to their friends.
This seems to be a good mechanism for us, since we don't have any
space in the specialized local press.
9/16/2000,
22 PM
Brew House Club, Estados Unidos 745.
Buenos
Aires, Argentina
Back to the Brew House Club. This
time we had 90 people in the audience. The place has only sixty
chairs, actually, but the customers keep standing, drinking beer.
The photos of the trio are very similar to the show we played in
July. So we chose a couple of special photos:
Claudio looks happier than usual: his first son , Tomás,
was born two weeks ago!
For this show we prepared a couple of songs we don't usually play:
"Hope", "Kan-Non Power" and an extended version
of "Yamanashi Blues", with seven solos in the middle part.
We added a graphic equalizer to our setup and the sound was better:
the Ovation line sound has a lot of middle frequencies. We had two
volunteers for "El Payaso" this time, making faces and
clapping hands at the same time. Wow!

One
of the two "clowns" performing with the audience.

Sitting
Clown still clapping...
Towards the end of the evening we played two GC standards (unplugged)
with three members of the EGBA who were in the audience and came
with their guitars.
7
/ 7 / 2000, 22 PM
Brew House Club, Estados Unidos 745
Buenos Aires, Argentina
The
weather : Cold and rainy.
In
the audience: 82 people
At 9 PM we arrived at the Club and made the setup/soundcheck in
forty minutes. Our recently bought Fender speakers made their debut.
It was OK but we may add a graphic equalizer to our set.
Towards the end of the show, Claudio invited a member of the audience
to help us with the next song.
Pato U. , our reckless volunteer, didn't know it was "El Payaso"
("The Clown") by Kabalevski... In the picture at upper
right corner you can see him clapping at an increasing tempo, while
coordinating expressions of sad-clown/happy-clown. ¡Thank
you Pato!
We'll be back at Brew House Club on september 16 th.
